Congress and the Goa Forward Party (GFP) have initiated formal discussions to strengthen their alliance and forge a united opposition front against the BJP government in Goa.

The development comes just a day after Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai took a swipe at the Congress during a public meeting in Canacona on Friday, saying, "The CJP will get more votes, but the Congress will not."

However, by Saturday, the political narrative had shifted.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar and GFP President Vijai Sardesai announced that they had held a cordial and constructive meeting to discuss key issues affecting Goa and the roadmap for greater opposition unity.

Both leaders said they would soon hold formal discussions to build a broader consensus on the alliance, stressing that Goa's interests would remain paramount. They added that the objective was to present a transparent, accountable and people-centric alternative to the BJP government.

The leaders also emphasised that any alliance must be guided by discipline, mutual respect, alliance dharma and a shared commitment to the larger interests of Goa.
