Goa observes Journalists' Day or Patrakar Din on August 1st every year, marking the death anniversary of freedom fighter and pioneering nationalist journalist Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. It was celebrated across Goa with various events organized to mark the occasion.

Speaking at an event, Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) President Rajtilak Naik stated that it is completely wrong to label all journalists as bad or as "Godi media." He urged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to name specific individuals instead of blaming the entire media community. He further stated that the actions of a few should not define all journalists.

At the same event, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar highlighted the vital role of the media in society. He stated that good journalism is essential for a democracy to grow and stay strong. Meanwhile, local journalist associations also marked the day with special activities. In Canacona, the local journalists' association celebrated the occasion by honoring and felicitating local farmers for their hard work and contribution to society.
