Former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Justice (Rtd.) A.P. Shah, speaking at a lecture series organised by the Goa High Court Bar Association, criticised the prolonged incarceration of Umar Khalid while his trial under the UAPA is pending. Calling Khalid a "political dissenter," Justice Shah said that while some of the worst offenders, including violent murderers, are granted bail or remissions quickly, political dissenters like Khalid continue to languish behind bars. • Following a direction of the Supreme Court, the High Court has initiated a suo motu proceeding on the issue of stray dogs. The Electricity Department, in coordination with the Directorate of Vigilance, has suspended 13 employees, including Assistant Electrical Engineers, following preliminary findings of negligence in connection with two fatal electrocution incidents involving a lineman and a line helper.

The disciplinary action comes after a preliminary inquiry reportedly found lapses in the discharge of duties by the officials concerned.
In addition to the suspensions, three Assistant Engineers have been served show-cause notices, requiring them to explain their role in the incidents before further action is taken.

Speaking to the media, Kashinath Shetye said the action was initiated after the preliminary inquiry revealed negligence on the part of the officials involved. He said the government is committed to fixing accountability and ensuring such incidents do not recur.
