Former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Justice (Rtd.) A.P. Shah, speaking at a lecture series organised by the Goa High Court Bar Association, criticised the prolonged incarceration of Umar Khalid while his trial under the UAPA is pending. Calling Khalid a "political dissenter," Justice Shah said that while some of the worst offenders, including violent murderers, are granted bail or remissions quickly, political dissenters like Khalid continue to languish behind bars. • Following a direction of the Supreme Court, the High Court has initiated a suo motu proceeding on the issue of stray dogs. The High Court has made the Goa government, the Directorate of Panchayats and all municipalities respondents, and has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday for further consideration and directions. • The Margao JMFC Court has remanded Luisa Maria Fernandes e Kudchadkar to seven days police custody in connection with the Sanjeel Kudchadkar abduction case. The appointment follows the superannuation of Dr. Rupa Naik, Deputy Director (Public Health), who had been holding the additional charge of the post.
