Former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Justice (Rtd.) A.P. Shah, speaking at a lecture series organised by the Goa High Court Bar Association, criticised the prolonged incarceration of Umar Khalid while his trial under the UAPA is pending. Calling Khalid a "political dissenter," Justice Shah said that while some of the worst offenders, including violent murderers, are granted bail or remissions quickly, political dissenters like Khalid continue to languish behind bars. • Following a direction of the Supreme Court, the High Court has initiated a suo motu proceeding on the issue of stray dogs. The High Court has made the Goa government, the Directorate of Panchayats and all municipalities respondents, and has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday for further consideration and directions. • The Margao JMFC Court has remanded Luisa Maria Fernandes e Kudchadkar to seven days police custody in connection with the Sanjeel Kudchadkar abduction case. The Goa government will begin issuing traffic challans through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered cameras installed across the state.
A total of 26 AI-enabled traffic cameras have been installed at key locations across Goa to automatically detect traffic violations.
Officials said motorists found violating traffic rules will receive e-challans directly on their registered mobile phones, eliminating the need for manual enforcement in many cases.
