Goa’s Manohar International Airport at Mopa has accumulated staggering losses of around ₹777 crore since the commencement of operations, according to financial figures reported by operator GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL).
The airport recorded a loss of ₹148.3 crore during 2022-23, followed by a significantly higher loss of ₹363.3 crore in 2023-24. In FY2024-25, the airport incurred an additional loss of ₹266 crore, taking the cumulative deficit close to ₹777 crore since inauguration.
Financial data further revealed that the airport reported a loss of ₹63.3 crore during the fourth quarter of FY26. The total loss for FY26 has reportedly touched ₹331.2 crore.
The mounting losses have once again raised concerns over the financial sustainability of Goa’s second international airport, which was launched with the aim of boosting tourism, connectivity and passenger capacity in the state.
Industry observers believe the airport continues to face challenges related to passenger traffic growth, airline operations and competition with Goa’s existing Dabolim Airport. The financial performance is likely to intensify discussions on long-term operational viability and traffic expansion strategies at Mopa.
