The Chapora Boat Owners' Association has urged the Goa government to extend the annual fishing ban by another 15 days, citing Maharashtra's decision to prolong its ban.

The association said Goa should follow Maharashtra's example and extend the ban to ensure the protection and regeneration of marine resources.

It also reiterated its long-standing demand that the fishing ban in Goa be increased from the current two months to three months, arguing that a longer ban would help conserve fish stocks and support the long-term sustainability of the fishing industry.

The annual fishing ban in Goa, imposed during the monsoon to allow fish breeding, concluded on July 31, following the completion of the two-month prohibition period.
