Tillari Dam Water Supply To Goa To Remain Shut For Three Months

Maharashtra To Undertake Canal Repairs From October 1; Water Supply To Pernem, Bardez And Bicholim To Be Affected

Water supply from the Tillari Dam to three talukas in North Goa — Pernem, Bardez and Bicholim — is expected to remain suspended for three months as Maharashtra takes up repair work on the canal network.

The Tillari project is a joint initiative of the Goa and Maharashtra governments and supplies water to several parts of North Goa.

According to information available, repair work on the left and right canals in Maharashtra will begin on October 1 and continue until December 31. During this period, water supply from the Tillari project to Goa will remain suspended.

Around ₹1.80 crore has been sanctioned for the canal repair work. The two governments have previously spent crores of rupees on repairs, but repeated damage to the canals has continued to disrupt water supply.

On earlier occasions, canal breaches had resulted in interruptions to Goa’s water supply, causing difficulties for residents.
