Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has clarified that the reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Goa Legislative Assembly will be based on updated population data and not solely on figures from the 2001 Census.

According to the Chief Minister, the Census Commissioner will prepare updated data on Goa’s ST population, which will subsequently be notified and used for the delimitation of constituencies and reservation of Assembly seats under the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Act, 2025.

However, a key question now remains: Will the entire exercise be completed before the 2027 Goa Assembly elections?
