The Marathi Rajbhasha Nirdhar Samiti is set to march towards the Goa Assembly on August 31, demanding official language status for Marathi alongside Konkani.

The organisation is expected to mobilise around 5,000 supporters for the march. The protesters are seeking a resolution and legislative action to grant Marathi official language status in the state.

The Samiti has warned that the agitation could be intensified if the government fails to introduce a resolution on Marathi during the upcoming Assembly session.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has extended its support to the proposed march. The party has urged the Goa government to initiate appropriate legal measures and introduce a Bill on the demand during the Assembly session.
