AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday criticised the Centre's E20 fuel policy, alleging that the BJP-led Union Government has imposed ethanol-blended petrol despite its adverse impact on vehicles.

Speaking at a press conference in Panaji, Kejriwal claimed that the use of E20 fuel has led to reduced mileage and engine-related problems, especially in two-wheelers. He urged people in Goa to reconsider purchasing new petrol or diesel vehicles until the issue is addressed.

Highlighting Goa's high rate of vehicle ownership, Kejriwal said nearly 45 per cent of the state's population owns a car, while around 86 per cent owns a two-wheeler. He further alleged that between 85 and 95 per cent of vehicles in Goa had been affected by E20 fuel.

Linking the issue to the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections, Kejriwal appealed to voters to reject the BJP, saying a change in government was necessary to protect vehicle owners from what he described as the harmful effects of the fuel policy.

"If you want to save your vehicle from E20, then throw out the BJP in the Goa elections," he said.

However, Kejriwal did not provide technical data or scientific evidence to substantiate his claims that E20 fuel causes engine damage or significantly reduces fuel efficiency.

The Central Government has consistently stated that the introduction of E20 petrol is being carried out in phases based on vehicle compatibility under the National Biofuel Policy. According to the Centre, automobile manufacturers have developed E20-compatible vehicles, while the ethanol blending programme is intended to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, cut emissions and strengthen the country's energy security.
