‘Not About Seats, About Saving Goa’:RGP Gives 30-Day Deadline To Congress

The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has formally welcomed the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s initiative to begin discussions on a possible electoral alliance for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, while making it clear that any alliance must put the interests of Goa and Goans above political arithmetic.

RGP National President Viresh Mukesh Borkar said the party is willing to enter into formal discussions with Congress, citing common ground on issues including Goa’s identity, land, employment, environment, sustainable development and protection of the state’s social and cultural character.

‘Not Just About Seats, It Is About Saving Goa’

RGP said the proposed alliance should not be limited to seat-sharing and instead should offer voters a strong, united and credible political alternative.

The party has proposed a Common Minimum Programme, transparent and mutually agreed seat-sharing for the 2027 Assembly elections, electoral coordination for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, strong safeguards against defections and a coordinated campaign based on a common political vision for Goa.

RGP Sets 30-Day Deadline

With the party already undertaking organisational preparations for the 2027 elections, RGP has proposed that the alliance discussions be concluded within 30 days of Congress receiving its letter.

RGP has appointed a six-member committee to represent the party in the talks:

Viresh Mukesh Borkar

The committee will hold discussions with the six-member Alliance Committee constituted by the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.

Borkar said the proposed alliance was not about political arithmetic but about the future of Goa.

“For RGP, this is not about political arithmetic. It is about the future of Goa. Our land, our identity, our environment, our culture and the aspirations of our youth cannot be compromised,” Borkar said.

He added that if the two parties come together, the alliance must be based on trust, transparency, accountability and a shared commitment to Goa.

“If we are coming together, we must come together for Goa. We must give the people a government that will stand with them, protect their interests and respect their mandate,” he said.

RGP said it looks forward to constructive and purposeful discussions with Congress, with the stated objective of protecting Goa, empowering Goans and securing the state’s future.
