In a landmark decision aimed at preserving its cultural heritage, environment, and traditional identity, the residents of Advoi village in Sattari taluka have unanimously resolved not to sell even a single inch of village land to outsiders. The historic resolution was passed during a Gram Sabha held at the village's presiding deity, Shri Shantadurga Temple, where villagers first offered prayers and sought the blessings of the deity before taking the collective pledge.
Residents expressed concern over the increasing purchase of land by people from within and outside Goa, stating that such transactions are gradually eroding the village's culture, traditions, and ecological balance. To safeguard the interests of future generations, the villagers decided that land, if sold, should be transferred only to eligible residents within the village and not to any outsider.
The decision received unanimous support from representatives of all generations of the village, reflecting a strong commitment to protecting Advoi's identity and heritage. Villagers emphasized that the resolution is intended to preserve the village's cultural fabric, environmental resources, and community ownership of land. The move has drawn widespread appreciation across Sattari, with many citizens calling it a model for other villages seeking to protect their traditional identity and natural resources.
