A high-profile shooting incident near the Porvorim Police Station and North Goa SP headquarters has sent shockwaves across Goa after shots were allegedly fired at Casino Majestic Paradise Director Shrinivas Nayak.

The incident took place around 100 metres from the Porvorim Police Station. Nayak and his security personnel escaped unharmed in the alleged attack.

According to Nayak, three shots were fired at him, following which his security personnel fired back. The assailants then allegedly fled the spot by crossing the highway.

Despite around 12 hours having passed since the suspected assailants were first captured on CCTV footage at a hotel, police are yet to establish their identity or whereabouts.

“Three shots were fired at me. My security person fired back. Then they fled by crossing the highway,” Nayak told Prudent.

Initial police investigation suggests that the shooters were 'supari killers' from outside Goa; police are yet to ascertain their whereabouts; an 'abandoned car' with GA registration has also become a part of the investigation: highly placed police sources tell Prudent

Porvorim Police have registered an FIR against an unknown accused for allegedly attempting to murder Nayak. According to police sources, Nayak has not named any suspect in his complaint.

The fact that the shooting occurred close to the police station and on one of Goa’s busiest highways has raised serious questions over security and law and order in the state.

Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to identify and apprehend the assailants.
