One person died and four others were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in met with an accident near the KTC Bus Stand in Ponda last night. The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment. • Goan-origin Portuguese politician Dr Narana Sinai Coissoró passed away in Lisbon on Saturday at the age of 94. He was elected to the Portuguese Parliament for the first time in June 1976 and served eight terms. He later served as Deputy Speaker of the Portuguese Parliament from 1995 to 2005. • Maina-Curtorim Police have arrested two more accused persons, namely Vinayak Das, a native of Karnataka, and Suresh Pujari, a resident of Seraulim, in connection with the Nuvem mob assault death case. Police had earlier arrested three persons in connection with the case. Police have also identified seven other persons allegedly involved in the incident. • Margao JMFC Court remands three accused to 5 days police custody. The trio was arrested by Maina-Curtorim Police after an unidentified man, suspected of two-wheeler theft, was allegedly assaulted by an unlawful assembly at Nuvem on August 27. He was later declared brought dead at SGDH, Margao. • Porvorim Casino Shootout: Porvorim Police have registered an FIR against unknown accused for allegedly attempting to murder Casino Majestic Paradise Director Shrinivas Nayak. According to police sources, Nayak, in his complaint to the Porvorim Police, has not named any suspect in connection with the attack. • Firing was reported at Casino Majestic in Porvorim, with two unidentified assailants allegedly firing six rounds. Majestic Director Shrinivas Nayak and his security guard escaped unharmed as they were at the spot.
