The Centre has urged the SC to refer the Pennaiyar river water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to the existing Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal instead of constituting a new tribunal; SC has sought responses from both states and granted them two weeks to respond. The theft was allegedly committed on August 1 after the accused entered the temple premises and broke open the donation box. Police examined CCTV footage and identified Savalo as the accused. He was traced at Cortalim and arrested on August 8 • Family members of the victim student staged a protest outside HSS, demanding justice. Sources said the family is likely to pursue legal action against the school over alleged negligence. Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam assured the family that an FIR has already been registered over the alleged negligence. The school manager termed the incident unfortunate and said the school would investigate the matter.
