The Goa Government has assured that pending prize money due to sportspersons will be released within a month, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar informed the Legislative Assembly.
The issue was raised by MLA Nilesh Cabral, who sought the early disbursement of pending prize money to sportspersons, stressing that timely payments would encourage athletes to perform better and continue pursuing their sporting careers.
Cabral also sought clarity on the delay in releasing the prize money and urged the Government to ensure that eligible sportspersons receive their payments without further delay.
MLA Viresh Borkar called for a clear timeline for clearing pending prize money. He suggested that the Government issue a notification specifying the timeframe within which such payments would be processed and released.
Responding to the concerns, Tawadkar assured the House that sportspersons who win competitions would receive their prize money in the same year, while the pending amounts would be cleared within a month.
