Opposition MLAs in the Goa Legislative Assembly have opposed the mandatory use of E20 petrol and demanded that E10 fuel also be made available as an alternative to consumers.

Raising the issue through a calling attention motion, the MLAs claimed that the use of E20 petrol was affecting vehicles and reducing their mileage. They also alleged that the higher ethanol blend was causing inconvenience to motorists, particularly owners of vehicles that are not designed for E20 fuel.

The Opposition further pointed out that the price of pure petrol has crossed ₹160 per litre, making fuel costs a growing concern for consumers.

The MLAs also questioned the absence of regular fuel quality testing by the Civil Supplies Department and sought greater monitoring to ensure that consumers receive fuel meeting prescribed standards.

Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said there had been no complaints received by the Civil Supplies Department regarding the quality of petrol. He added that the concerned departments have the authority to conduct fuel testing wherever necessary.

The Opposition maintained that consumers should have the option of choosing E10 fuel, particularly to protect older vehicles and address concerns over mileage and vehicle performance.
