Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has announced that kayaking points in Goa’s hinterland will be demarcated and regulated within the next 7–8 days, following High Court intervention aimed at ensuring that kayaking operations are conducted only in designated areas.

Khaunte said the move forms part of the government’s broader “Beyond Beaches” tourism approach, which seeks to promote Goa’s hinterland along with culinary, wellness, adventure, Ayurveda, yoga and spiritual tourism.

The Tourism Department has also extended the deadline for applications and renewal of tourism properties to October 31, giving operators additional time to complete the required formalities.

Khaunte announced that fire licences will be mandatory for hotels, homestays, private shacks and other specified tourism activities. He also stressed the requirement for third-party insurance for hotels and water sports operators.

Under the proposed registration framework, A and B category hotels will be considered for five-year registration, subject to annual compliance, including adherence to fire-safety requirements. Hotel renewal applications will be processed within 10 days, failing which they will be deemed approved.

The minister said inspections carried out in Calangute, Candolim, Morjim and Ashwem found violations including properties operating without tourism registration, fire licences and required CRZ permissions.

Khaunte stressed the need for greater cooperation between the government and the tourism industry to improve safety, ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate ease of doing business.
