Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the Goa government is strengthening regulation of unauthorised homestays, hotels and Airbnb-style accommodation properties while continuing to focus on ease of doing business.

Khaunte said the government is coordinating with online travel aggregators, including Airbnb and MakeMyTrip, to ensure that accommodation properties listed on their platforms are duly registered with the Department of Tourism.

He said gated communities, apartments and villas offering accommodation services must also comply with the required regulatory framework, including obtaining necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

The minister stressed that accommodation businesses must follow registration and other applicable requirements. He said authorities are also examining relevant Supreme Court directions concerning the commercial use of residential properties.

Khaunte said the government’s approach is aimed at bringing greater accountability to the tourism sector while ensuring that legitimate businesses can operate within a clear regulatory framework.

He also called for a broader approach towards “redefining” Goa’s tourism sector, with greater responsibility and accountability among all stakeholders.
