Public sector banks in Goa will remain open on Sunday, September 27, following directions from the government and the Reserve Bank of India ahead of the three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.

The decision has drawn opposition from bank employees, who observed the protest by wearing black clothes. United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) Goa Convenor Santosh Haldankar said bank employees are scheduled to remain on strike from Monday to Wednesday.

The employees are demanding, among other issues, a five-day working week, holidays on all Saturdays and improvements in pension-related benefits.

Meanwhile, Goa State Cooperative Bank Chairman Pandurang Kuttikar said cooperative banks in the state will remain open during the strike days.

The three-day strike is expected to affect banking services across the country, while cooperative banks in Goa are set to continue operations, according to Kuttikar.
