The Goa State Election Commission (SEC) has notified the ward delimitation for the upcoming general elections to 11 municipal councils across the state.

The notification, issued by State Election Commissioner Menino D’Souza on September 9 under Section 10(3) of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968, covers the municipal councils of Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Curchorem-Cacora, Bicholim, Cuncolim, Quepem, Canacona, Valpoi, Pernem and Sanguem.

The delimitation notification sets out the areas included in each ward, along with the corresponding assembly constituency parts and house numbers falling within the respective wards.

A key change in the exercise is that the number of councillors and the ward boundaries have been determined on the basis of the total population of each municipal area, rather than the number of registered voters.

The change follows the recently notified Goa Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 2026, which provides for ward delimitation and determination of councillor strength based on population.

The SEC’s notification marks an important step towards conducting the ensuing municipal council elections and provides the territorial framework under which voters will be represented in the 11 municipalities.
