The Goa CGST Commissionerate currently has 20,960 registered taxpayers and has contributed ₹1,143.87 crore to the Central Government’s revenue till August 2026, officials said.
The accommodation, food and beverage sectors have emerged as significant contributors to GST collections in the state, according to information shared during a four-day taxpayer awareness programme conducted in Goa.
The programme was organised from September 28 to October 1 by the Mumbai Regional Unit of the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), functioning under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The initiative was conducted under the leadership of DGTS Mumbai Principal Additional Director General Sumit Kumar.
As part of the programme, DGTS officials held discussions with officers of the CGST Goa Commissionerate on September 28 and also visited Goa Shipyard Limited. On September 29, a GST awareness programme was held for representatives from the trade and industry sector, followed by a GST session for students at the BITS Pilani Goa campus.
A further awareness session was organised for students of the Goa Business School at Goa University on September 30.
The DGTS Mumbai Regional Unit has participated in or organised 54 taxpayer awareness programmes since April 2026. These include 32 seminars, webinars and hybrid programmes, along with 22 interactive sessions aimed at improving awareness about tax laws and procedures and encouraging voluntary compliance.
Over Two Lakh Visitors At GST Seva Kendra
The GST Seva Kendra operating on the ground floor of the CGST Bhavan provides assistance to taxpayers in resolving GST-related issues and offers guidance on various policy matters.
According to the department, more than two lakh citizens have so far availed themselves of services provided by the centre.
Over the past one-and-a-half years, the CGST Goa Commissionerate has also conducted seven awareness programmes in collaboration with business organisations, trade associations and educational institutions. These included seminar-cum-webinars and dedicated awareness programmes on GST 2.0 reforms.
A Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) has been constituted with the participation of leading trade and industry associations to address taxpayer grievances. Regular GST SAMVAAD sessions are also being held with taxpayers and business associations to gather feedback, suggestions and information about issues being faced by them.
Officials said the department is focusing on completing taxpayer registrations through the online process within three to seven days in accordance with government policy.
The refund process has also been streamlined through the Back Office Portal, with arrangements to process eligible refunds within the prescribed timelines. Depending on applicable risk parameters, eligible taxpayers can also receive provisional refunds of up to 90 per cent of the amount claimed, officials said.
No Casino Can Yet Be Conclusively Called GST Defaulter
DGTS Mumbai Principal Additional Director General Sumit Kumar clarified that no casino operating in Goa can presently be conclusively termed a GST defaulter, as notices issued in cases of alleged tax defaults are still subject to responses and appeals.
He said no final orders have been passed in these matters. Officials also declined to disclose the number of notices issued to casinos or the amount of GST collected from them.
Kumar further clarified that GST applicable to UPI transactions relates to merchant transactions and does not apply to person-to-person transfers or small personal payments.
