BJP Goa President Damu Naik has hit back at MLA Nilesh Cabral over his statement on Prudent’s Head On that he would have to think about accepting a BJP ticket for not for the 2027 elections.
Naik said Cabral’s remarks may have stemmed from “political insecurity”. Recalling Cabral’s political journey, Naik said Cabral was working with the Congress in 2011 before the BJP gave him a ticket, following which he won three elections. He added that Cabral was also made a minister and is currently a BJP core committee member, and it isnt right of him to make such statments.
Naik said Cabral should have raised his concerns within the party instead of making public statements. He added that Cabral’s remarks have been forwarded to the party high command.
Reacting to the AAP–GFP Goa First alliance, Naik compared election-time alliances to mushrooms appearing during the rains.
“Just as mushrooms appear during the rains, parties emerge and alliances are formed during elections. But do they really have concern for the people?” Naik said.
He highlighted various schemes introduced by the BJP government and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the party forward. Naik also pointed to the BJP’s growing membership.
Meanwhile, Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai reacted to Damu Naik’s statement, saying the BJP’s response shows that the alliance is moving in the right direction.
Sardesai claimed that the Congress and BJP are afraid of the alliance.
