Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to conduct a thorough inquiry into allegations of police misconduct raised by MLA Carlos Ferreira in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Ferreira alleged that “settings” were taking place within the Home Department, claiming that some police cases were being closed after arrangements were allegedly made for personal benefit. He said there was evidence against certain police personnel and questioned why action had not been taken despite the allegations being brought to the authorities’ attention.
The MLA also read out a list of police personnel allegedly involved in misconduct and demanded action against those responsible.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Sawant said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and directed the DGP to initiate an inquiry.
Sawant said that if any police officer or departmental personnel are found to have been involved in misconduct, strict action would be taken against them, including suspension.
Responding to questions regarding a suspended police constable allegedly linked to a drug-related case, Sawant said further action would be taken in accordance with the law after the matter is examined.
The Chief Minister said that if the inquiry establishes involvement in wrongdoing, the concerned personnel would face appropriate action.
Sawant also stressed that there should be no delay in taking action against those found guilty and indicated that arrest would be carried out wherever warranted under the law.
