Malcolm Pereira reported to the Cuncolim Police Station on Wednesday for questioning following a notice issued in connection with the assault on the Chinchinim Sarpanch. According to Police Inspector Diego Gracias, an FIR has been officially registered against Pereira, though he has not yet been taken into custody. The legal proceedings are set to intensify as a bail hearing for the accused is scheduled for tomorrow, 10 September.
Meanwhile, tense scenes unfolded outside the police station as Aam Aadmi Party workers staged a protest demanding Pereira’s immediate arrest. Heavily criticizing both the Goa government and the police department, AAP members alleged that local citizens are no longer safe in the state and accused the government of protecting lawbreakers.
