The 161-day sit-in protest by villagers of Karapur against the mega project was called off on Saturday following intervention by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

The agitation came to an end after the Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat issued a “stop work” notice to the ongoing project work on September 11.

The protesters said their two key demands had been accepted following the developments and announced that they were withdrawing the 161-day agitation.
The prolonged protest had seen villagers raising concerns over the project and seeking action from the authorities. With the Panchayat issuing the stop-work notice, the protesters said they had achieved the immediate objectives of their agitation.
However, the protesters have maintained that their opposition to the project continues and that they will pursue the matter through legal channels.
