In a contempt petition filed against Goa government authorities concerning illegal dhiriyos in the state, the High Court has given the respondent, the Director General of Goa Police (DGP), three weeks to file an additional reply setting out subsequent actions taken pursuant to an earlier undertaking to the court.

During the hearing on Friday, the government informed the court that although an initial reply had already been filed by the police department, later developments required the DGP to place a further affidavit on record.

The government advocate told the court that several FIRs have recently been registered against organisers of illegal bullfighting, and that convictions have been secured in some matters. The DGP seeks to place those details on record by way of an additional affidavit to demonstrate comprehensive compliance.

The High Court granted the DGP three weeks to file the additional reply and fixed the next hearing on 16 September for further consideration.
