The North Goa Additional Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bail to Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli, the prime accused in the Umakant Khot murder case.
In November 2025, Umakant Khot died under suspicious circumstances in Morjim, following which the Mandrem Police registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy against Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli and three co-accused and subsequently filed a chargesheet against them.

Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli had been absconding since the alleged offence. Consequently, by an order dated July 8, 2026, the court issued a statutory proclamation against accused Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli. Meanwhile, the court discharged the three co-accused.
Later, Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli approached the court seeking anticipatory bail, contending that the three co-accused in the same case had been discharged by the court.

The prosecution opposed Nedurumalli's anticipatory bail plea, contending that the plea was not maintainable as a proclamation had already been issued and the accused had been deliberately absconding. The Investigating Officer also submitted that Nedurumalli had remained untraceable, had evaded the investigation without cooperating, and that his custodial interrogation was required.
However, while granting Nedurumalli anticipatory bail, the court ruled that the issuance of a court proclamation does not operate as an absolute legal bar to the grant of anticipatory bail.

The court ultimately ordered that, in the event of his arrest, Ashok Kumar Nedurumalli shall be released on a personal bond of ₹50,000/-, with two blood-related sureties for the same amount.
