A Tripartite Safety Committee Meeting was held at Taj Vivanta, Goa, to discuss and promote the recommendations of the 12th National Conference on Safety in Mines, held under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).

The meeting brought together DGMS officials, mine management, workers and contractor representatives from the Kalay Mineral Block and Advalpal–Tivim Mineral Block, with the objective of strengthening safety practices through collective participation.

The meeting was chaired by Bipul Bihari Satiar, Deputy Director General, DGMS, Western Zone, Nagpur. Other DGMS officials present included Ramesh Walikar, Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region, along with senior officials from the DGMS.

The meeting began with a welcome address, followed by a tribute to miners who lost their lives in the course of their duties. Participants subsequently took the Safety Oath, reaffirming their commitment to safe working practices and accident prevention.

During the meeting, the implementation of recommendations from the 12th National Conference on Safety in Mines at the Kalay and Advalpal–Tivim mineral blocks was discussed.

The discussions focused on key aspects of mine safety, including hazard identification and risk assessment, continuous safety monitoring, worker training and awareness, use of personal protective equipment, safe transportation and material handling, emergency preparedness, electrical and mechanical safety, effective supervision, and reporting of unsafe conditions and near-misses.

An interactive discussion was also held between DGMS officials, mine management, workers and contractor representatives on safety challenges faced at the operational level. Participants stressed that mine safety is a collective responsibility requiring the active involvement of everyone associated with mining operations.

DGMS officials emphasised the need for a proactive and preventive approach to safety, with greater focus on identifying and eliminating hazards before they result in accidents. They also highlighted the importance of regular risk assessments, effective supervision, continuous safety training and active participation of workers and contractors in mine safety management.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by regulatory authorities, mine management, workers and contractors to maintain high standards of occupational safety and health and ensure that every person working in and around the mines returns home safely.
