Congress leader Nitin Chopdekar has alleged that six seats earmarked for Other Backward Classes (OBC) students in medical admissions have been reduced, raising concerns over the impact on students seeking admission under the reserved category.

Chopdekar claimed that the number of seats available to OBC students has been reduced by six in the medical admission quota. He also alleged that three seats meant for Scheduled Tribes (ST) have been reduced.

The issue comes at a time when there is a demand for granting Scheduled Tribe status to the OBC community.

Chopdekar has submitted a representation to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister, urging them to examine the matter and take appropriate steps.

He has sought government intervention to ensure that eligible OBC students are not deprived of opportunities under the medical reservation quota.
