The Prison Industry at Colvale Central Jail is giving inmates an opportunity to turn their creativity and skills into productive work, as part of efforts to rehabilitate and prepare them for life after prison.

Through different sections of the Prison Industry, inmates are trained in various skills and encouraged to put their creativity to practical use. The programme provides prisoners with an opportunity to discover and develop talents that can help them become self-reliant after completing their sentences.

Several inmates at Colvale jail are currently engaged in creative activities, making a range of products that are subsequently made available for sale. The initiative aims to provide them with meaningful work while helping them develop skills and a sense of purpose.

Among the products made by inmates are Ganesha idols, Narakasur effigies, decorative stars, sky lanterns and other items. These products reflect the skills acquired by the prisoners through the training provided under the Prison Industry.

The initiative goes beyond keeping inmates engaged during their sentence, with the focus being on rehabilitation through skill development, creativity and productive work.

By providing prisoners with training and an opportunity to showcase their abilities, the Prison Industry seeks to help them acquire practical skills and build confidence that can support their reintegration into society.
