The proposed work on the Tillari Canal in Maharashtra, which was scheduled to begin from October 1, has been postponed and will now commence in March 2027, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar said.
According to Shirodkar, the tendering process for the work has been completed, while the department is exploring alternative arrangements to ensure continued water supply during the period.
The three-month canal shutdown had raised concerns over its impact on water availability. With the work now deferred to March, questions have also been raised over the timing of the project and the arrangements that will be made to maintain water supply.
Shirodkar said the department is currently working on identifying alternatives for water supply before the canal work begins.
