Valpoi Police arrested 25-year-old Mehbub Sab Bagale after allegedly catching him red-handed transporting 1,800 kg of meat worth around Rs 3.4 lakh at BCP Keri, Sattari. United Tribal Association Alliance (UTAA) president Prakash Velip said the organisation’s August 13 programme will be a melava and not a protest, while asserting that political reservation for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community will be implemented in Goa by 2027.

Velip said four Assembly constituencies are expected to be reserved for the ST community once the process is completed.
Clarifying his position on differing views, Velip said he did not wish to comment on others and maintained that everyone has the right to express their views in a democracy.

Meanwhile, MLA Michael Lobo backed the demand for ST political reservation, saying it should be implemented to address the community’s long-pending demand.

However, Lobo stressed that the reservation process must be completed by following all legal procedaures, ensuring that the final decision is legally sound and cannot be challenged before the High Court or Supreme Court.
