Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a seven-point reform agenda, ‘Saptadhara’, aimed at accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, PM Modi said the government would focus on reforms in both its thinking and its goals to achieve major milestones in the coming years.
“In the coming 5 to 7 years, we need to achieve what could not be done in the last 5 to 7 decades,” PM Modi said, emphasising the need for “reform in thinking and reforming our aims.”
Seven Pillars of ‘Saptadhara’
Under the Saptadhara framework, the Prime Minister outlined seven key strengths, or ‘shaktis’, that will drive India’s development:
1. Manufacturing
2. Agriculture and Food Processing
3. Technology and Innovation
4. Gati Shakti
5. Defence Production
6. Green Economy
7. Soft Power
PM Modi said these seven areas would play a crucial role in strengthening India’s economic capabilities and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
Focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat
During his Independence Day address, the Prime Minister also reiterated the importance of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
“Becoming an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is crucial,” Modi said, stressing that India must reduce its dependence on other nations, strengthen domestic capabilities and safeguard its national interests.
He said initiatives such as Make in India, Swadeshi and Local for Local are gaining momentum as the country moves towards greater self-reliance.
PM Modi unfurled the national flag, the Tiranga, from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15 as part of India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations before addressing the nation.
The seven-point Saptadhara agenda comes as the government seeks to accelerate reforms and strengthen key sectors to realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat in the years ahead.
