Elephant ‘Omkar’ has been causing damage to crops in orchards at Tambose, Pernem, leaving local farmers worried over recurring agricultural losses.

Farmers said the elephant’s movement through the area has resulted in extensive crop damage, adding to concerns over their livelihoods and the need for immediate measures to protect agricultural fields from further destruction.

The affected farmers are also awaiting compensation for the losses suffered due to the elephant’s movement. They have urged the authorities to expedite the damage assessment and release financial assistance without further delay.

Farmer Shashikant Mahale questioned the priority being given to farmers’ concerns, pointing out that extensive arrangements are being made for the upcoming inauguration of the renovated Patradevi Memorial, including facilities and security for VIPs.

“Many facilities and security arrangements are being provided for VIPs, but what about us farmers? Who will provide protection to us?” Mahale questioned.

Farmers have demanded immediate compensation along with permanent measures to prevent elephants and other wild animals from entering agricultural fields in Tambose and surrounding areas.

They have urged the administration to act promptly and ensure that farmers receive both protection and timely compensation for their crop losses.
