The presentation of the President’s Colour to Goa Police on Monday turned the spotlight on more than the force’s ceremonial recognition, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighting Goa’s performance in modern policing, cybercrime prevention and criminal justice reforms.

Presenting the prestigious honour in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and DGP Alok Kumar, Shah said Goa may be a small state but carries significant strategic importance, particularly because of its maritime borders and security responsibilities.

One of the key achievements highlighted by Shah was Goa Police’s performance in implementing the new criminal justice codes. He said the force had remained at the top nationally for several months and now ranks second in the country with a performance score of 93.38%.

Shah said Goa Police had performed well across all nine parameters assessed under the new justice framework. He also pointed to a 30% rise in the force’s conviction rate within a year, underlining what he described as improved policing and investigation.

The Home Minister also drew attention to Goa’s technology-led response to cybercrime. The Goa Police has introduced an AI-based call agent for the 1930 cyber fraud helpline, aimed at strengthening assistance to victims of online financial fraud.

Shah said the growing digital economy has brought with it an expanding cyber fraud threat and stressed the need for stronger mechanisms to protect citizens. He described Goa’s AI initiative as a step ahead of similar efforts in other states.

Beyond these initiatives, Shah credited Goa Police with maintaining security in communities and cities while protecting the state’s maritime frontiers, calling its contribution important to national security.
