Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that Quepem, Sanguem, Priol and Nuvem constituencies in Goa are expected to be notified as reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) between December 8 and 10.
Speaking to the media after the Cabinet meeting, Sawant said the Chief Electoral Officer of Goa has sent a report to the Centre regarding the reservation of the four constituencies.
He said the next step would involve the Election Commission of India directing the Chief Electoral Officer to conduct public hearings as part of the prescribed process.
The proposed reservation is part of the process to readjust representation for Scheduled Tribes in Goa’s Legislative Assembly constituencies.
Sawant reiterated that the government is following up on the matter and expressed hope that the process for all four constituencies would move forward within the indicated timeline.
The final notification will depend on the completion of the required procedures by the Election Commission.
