Former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar has raised alarm over the growing drug menace in Curchorem, alleging that the town is fast becoming Goa’s “drug capital” under the BJP-led government.
Patkar said the situation has become particularly worrying after interactions with educational institutions in the area, with concerns emerging over the safety of children and the increasing exposure of young people to drugs.
“The government needs to wake up before it is too late. Our children should carry books and dreams, not live under the shadow of drugs. No drugs around our children. No compromise on their safety,” Patkar said.
He alleged that the government and administration have failed to effectively control the drug trade and expressed concern over the impact of the menace on the younger generation.
Patkar announced that the Congress will launch a sustained anti-drug awareness campaign from October, beginning in Curchorem and subsequently taking the campaign to other parts of Goa.
