Two police personnel were reportedly caught on CCTV abusing and threatening staff at a Porvorim restaurant following a dispute over a food bill, putting police conduct and accountability under scrutiny in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

GFP chief Vijai Sardesai raised the incident in the House, questioning how police personnel could allegedly threaten and intimidate members of the public and demanding accountability for such conduct.

Sardesai also referred to the arrest of his party workers and an advocate in Sanguem, saying the government had justified the police action in that case. Questioning the alleged conduct of police personnel, he asked, “But what about police making gunda gardi?”

He further alleged that some former party workers who later joined the police force were now involved in what he described as “hafta vasuli.”

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the Porvorim incident would be subjected to an inquiry and assured the Assembly that the concerned police personnel would be suspended if found guilty.
