Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday assured that no higher secondary teacher working on a three-year contract or guest lecturer basis will be removed from service, amid concerns raised by students over the transfer of teachers at Dr T B Cunha Higher Secondary School in Panaji.

Sawant said the teachers would be allowed to continue in their existing schools until the Education Department completes the streamlining process. Thereafter, they may be transferred to nearby schools and accommodated within the education system, he said.

The Chief Minister also urged students not to resort to protests and said the issue could be resolved through discussions with the authorities.

Students of Dr T B Cunha Higher Secondary School had urged the government to retain their existing teachers, expressing concern that changes in teaching staff could affect their preparation for the second-term examinations next month and preliminary examinations scheduled in December.
