The Margao Municipal Council’s newly proposed master plan for the city has drawn criticism from local residents, who have raised concerns about its clarity and intent. Citizens, particularly from densely populated and heritage zones, have alleged that the plan could lead to displacement and disruption of existing communities.

According to residents, the plan talks about streamlining parking and urban infrastructure, but fails to provide a clear blueprint or transparency in implementation. Many have pointed out that a similar attempt was made earlier, which was eventually dropped without explanation.

“The current plan seems vague. There’s no clarity on how public spaces will be affected or how citizens’ voices will be incorporated,” a local resident said.

Public opposition is growing, with calls for greater consultation and transparency before moving ahead with any large-scale urban restructuring.
