The Margao JMFC Court has granted conditional bail to accused Mohan Kumar G, a 25-year-old Bengaluru resident, who was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police in a case involving the alleged cheating of a Margao resident to the tune of ₹35.9 lakh.
The accused and his associates allegedly cheated the victim in a “digital arrest” scam by impersonating police officials. During the bail hearing, the prosecution strongly objected to the release, stating that the investigation pointed to a coordinated cybercrime syndicate operating across multiple Indian states.
The prosecution further argued that the accused posed a significant flight risk as he lacked a permanent residential address in Goa.
For the defence, Adv. Sahil Sardessai contended that the accused had been falsely implicated, arguing that no overt act, direct inducement or illicit cyber transaction could be traced to his personal control or benefit.
The defence emphasized that all relevant electronic devices, internet logs and banking trails had already been seized by the authorities, effectively removing any possibility of the accused tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. After hearing both sides, the JMFC Court held that the investigation pertaining to the accused was complete and that further incarceration was unnecessary.
Mohan Kumar G was granted bail on execution of a personal bond of ₹15,000 with one local surety, along with a strict prohibition on leaving the state of Goa or the country without prior permission from the court.
