Youth Congress office-bearers visited the South Goa District Hospital amid a rise in dengue cases to assess the facilities available for patients and take stock of the situation at the hospital.

After inspecting the hospital, Youth Congress leaders addressed the media at the hospital entrance and alleged that some dengue patients were being treated on stretchers and even on the floor due to a shortage of beds.

The Youth Congress demanded that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister take immediate note of the situation and intervene to ensure better arrangements and adequate facilities for dengue patients.

Hospital Superintendent Rajendra Borkar said that all available beds at the hospital are currently occupied. However, he clarified that patients are continuing to receive treatment and are not being sent back home because of the shortage of beds.

Borkar also appealed to political parties to extend their support and cooperate with hospital authorities instead of merely criticising the situation.
