Vegetable prices in Goa are likely to remain high and may rise further until Ganesh Chaturthi, Agriculture Director Chandrahans Naik Dessai has said.

According to Naik Dessai, demand for vegetables increases during the Shravan month, when a large section of the Hindu community opts for vegetarian food. However, vegetable production does not increase proportionately to meet the rising demand.

With demand outpacing supply, vegetable prices have already surged across the state. The Agriculture Department expects prices to remain at elevated levels or increase further as Chavath approaches.

The situation could put additional pressure on household budgets during the upcoming festive period.
