Veteran actor Nana Patekar was declared dead early Thursday morning after suffering a severe cardiac arrest, hospital sources told Prudent Media.
According to preliminary information, Patekar was declared dead at around 5:20 am after doctors at the hospital made extensive efforts to revive him. Hospital sources said doctors attempted resuscitation for nearly 45 minutes, but there was no response.
Dr. Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital said the medical team performed cardiac massage for nearly 45 minutes to an hour after Patekar was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive condition.
Despite the doctors' efforts, Patekar could not be revived and was declared dead at around 5:30 am, Dr. Salkar said.
The actor's mortal remains have been shifted to the Goa Medical College (GMC) Mortuary, where post-mortem procedures are currently underway.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the body would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem and assured that the government would extend all necessary support to the family.
