The High Court has issued notices to the Goa Government, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), and the Village Panchayat of Calangute in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the destruction of large tracts of beach vegetation and the cutting of trees on government land under the custody of the Tourism Department at Tavai Waddo, Calangute. The matter will be heard by the High Court on 16 September. • The body of 40-year-old fisherman Umesh Dabolkar, a resident of Nerul, has been recovered at Sinquerim Beach after he reportedly fell from a fishing boat and drowned. Rescue teams had launched a search operation to trace him. • A stray dog was run over and killed by a car in Cuncolim; CCTV footage shows the dog sitting visibly on the road as the vehicle approaches and runs over it. • Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said the MGP remains part of the alliance and will respect its principles, but questioned whether Govind Gaude has the authority to comment on alliance matters. PWD Minister Digambar Kamat met Gadkari in New Delhi and invited him for the inauguration. • FDA officials intercepted a private vehicle from Belagavi carrying around 120 kg of sweets for supply to vendors across Goa. The supplier was found operating without a valid FSSAI licence, following which the entire stock was destroyed in the interest of public health. • The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of Goa Act, 2025 has come into force from August 6, 2026. The Law Ministry has directed the Census Commissioner to ascertain/estimate Goa’s Scheduled Tribe population as per the last census, paving the way for further action on ST political reservation in the Assembly. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the Samadhi of Goa’s first Chief Minister, late D. B. Bandodkar, at Miramar will be completed before next year.

Sawant was speaking after paying floral tribute to Bandodkar on his death anniversary at the Old Secretariat in Panaji.

Bandodkar, popularly remembered as Goa’s first Chief Minister after the state’s liberation, played a significant role in shaping Goa’s early political and administrative landscape.

The Chief Minister said the completion of the Samadhi at Miramar would be an important tribute to Bandodkar and his contribution to Goa.
