To enhance public safety and reduce criminal activities, the Goa Police Department, led by Director General of Police Alok Kumar, has proposed a real-time mobile app to register and track individuals renting cars and bikes across the state.
Under the proposed system, rent-a-car and rent-a-bike operators will be mandated to upload verification documents, including Aadhaar cards and driving licences, onto the app before handing over vehicles to customers. Police officers can then instantly verify the authenticity of these identification details.
This measure comes after multiple criminal cases revealed suspects using fake IDs to rent vehicles, which were subsequently used in crimes such as theft and chain snatching, severely delaying police investigations. By integrating real-time document verification, authorities aim to eliminate fake document submissions and streamline investigative probes.
In addition to the rental tracking initiative, the meeting focused on broader safety measures, including accessing GPS data from public transport, enforcing stricter measures against drunk driving, and increasing roadside checks.
