Goa is significantly expanding its automated traffic monitoring infrastructure by installing 701 additional artificial intelligence (AI) cameras across 68 key locations. Building on the existing network of 348 AI cameras operating at 26 sites, this technological phase aims to strengthen road safety and strictly enforce traffic compliance throughout the state.
Under the proposed rollout, deployment will range from four to 15 cameras per junction depending on traffic density. The highest concentration of 15 cameras each will be installed at Nagoa Junction and Alto-Betim-Porvorim. Major intersections including O Coqueiro Circle, MES Junction, and Valles Junction in Dabolim will get 14 cameras each. High-density tourist and commuter belts such as Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Mapusa, Anjuna, and Saligao will see heavy coverage with up to 12 cameras per site.
Data from the Transport Department highlights the system's effectiveness: the initial 26 AI camera locations have already detected 10,41,958 traffic violations, yielding 5,684 e-challans and 81 legal notices.
With the state’s total AI network expanding past 1,000 cameras, motorists and tourists in Goa are strongly advised to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic rules to avoid automated penalties.
