The State Transport Authority (STA) in Goa has revised taxi fares for tourist and yellow-black taxis for the first time in five years, officially replacing the previous August 2021 notification.
Previous vs. New Price Comparison
Under the 2021 notification, yellow-black taxis operated on a flat-rate model charging 24 for the first kilometer and 21 for every subsequent kilometer across all vehicle categories. Hotel-attached tourist taxis were governed by time-and-distance hourly package deals.
The new notification replaces flat rates and package models with a distance-slab tariff structure (0-3 km, 3.1-8 km, and subsequent per-kilometer charges): Hatchbacks & Sedans (up to 1499cc): 300 base fare for 0-3 km, 430 for 3.1-8 km, and 26/km thereafter (up from 21/km). Regular SUVs (1500-2499cc): 400 base fare for 0-3 km, 560 for 3.1-8 km, and 32/km thereafter. Premium SUVs/MPVs: 500 base fare for 0-3 km, 660 for 3.1-8 km, and 32/km thereafter.
Key Operating Conditions
Surcharges: A 35% tariff surcharge applies to night journeys between 11 PM and 5 AM (along with an additional 100/hour night fee for hotel-attached tourist taxis). One-way trips outside municipal limits attract a 50% surcharge. Waiting Charges: Set at 50 per hour (or 4 for every 10 minutes). Additional Costs: Passengers are responsible for tolls, parking fees, ferry charges, and applicable taxes. Permit holders are required to display official fare charts inside vehicles.
